Anna Weatherley's hand-painted porcelain collection featuring Orchid designs draws inspiration from the elegant illustrations of British painter Florence Woolward, created between 1891 and 1896. These illustrations were commissioned by Schomberg Kerr, the 9th Marquess of Lothian, to showcase his extensive Orchid collection at Newbattle Abbey, culminating in the publication titled "The Genus Masdevallia."
Each plate in this collection is meticulously hand-painted by a team of highly skilled master painters at Anna Weatherley’s studio in Budapest. This artisanal method represents a “dying art form,” requiring countless hours to complete each piece. The result is a unique work characterized by fine shading, small brush strokes, and intricate details that far surpass the capabilities of mass-produced decal designs.
